Stellantis dealers warn of brand degradation; company scolds them to keep dispute in house -Detroit Free Press

I could never understand the love for that engine. I owned two vehicles with that engine, and I'd take a Ford or GM I6 over that under powered POS ;) engine any day of the week. LOL I better hide.
Same here. I bought a new one in 1976. The only way it wouldn't ping badly was to run 100+ octane Sunoco. That's what I did to sell it.

Jeeps are now, literally, unbelievably overpriced. CEO stated wanted Jeep to be reformulated into a "Luxury Brand"

What an idiot. How can modern world be so completely screwed up, that completely incompetent people, that shouldn't even be in charge of the french fry frier at Burger King, are instead ruining the lives of millions of others, while being paid tens, even hundreds of millions of dollars, to do it.

I want to know what value any CEO brings, especially considering they are paid thousands of times more than the average worker at the company.

I could fix it pretty quickly.

Reduce management by 30% in the next week.
Drop production numbers until quality control goals are met or exceeded. (easier than it sounds, 6-8 months of lower production)
Reduce model line up by 25%. (easier than it sounds, remove trim levels and multiple engine choices)
Add two low frills ICE models that an average American family can afford. (put money in these models that make them bullet proof and solid value for the money)
Add warranty extensions to all models. (this will hurt the bottom line for 24 month period but restore some consumer confidence)
Restructure company on all levels and streamline management. Put extra money towards the workers. (the unions are a severe labor cost that sadly cannot be drastically reduced)
Start working on government restrictions. (stop some of the unrealistic "safety" features from being incorporated into current lineups)

I am a car guy, that one thing will help tremendously!
Reduced manufacturing will likely increase price. Thus it becomes a vicious circle.

I agree, although someone like Lee Iacocoa might have been worth keeping on their payroll. The current clown in charge needs the boot.
Iacocoa earned his way into that spot, *competently*

The K-Car, horiffic as it was, was what Chrysler could do, within almost impossible constraints of price, emissions, mpg standards, unions, reputation, and the Japanese, to keep afloat. And of course the minivan...

Now that I think about it, Iacocoa is responsible for an entire generation, millennials, being raised in minivans. Which they now hate. Much like GenX hates the station wagon.

Gen X hates the station wagon? maybe some do, but I still want one.

I should clarify: the generation's *women*

The vehicles carry "mom image." Motherhood is in the American Female mind, is equivalent to failure. They were taught this since kindergarten, and most of the weak minded ones still believe it.

Modern women DO NOT want to be associated with motherhood. That's why they want Jeeps and trucks, and that's why Jeeps are full of BS luxury tech that no man wants. Cars are marketed to women. Men buy the vehicle they want. Women buy the marketing. This is well researched stuff, not me poopieposting.

Here's an even better question:

With so many people saying how AI is revolutionizing companies productivity, how come they aren't replacing CEO's and other executives with AI?
Think of the tremendous savings that would be realized, and the instant return Investors would receive with all those salaries returned to profits.

How much does the CEO of the AI company get paid 😂

It's a big club...

Hmm. Broad brush. Don't call my wife. :ROFLMAO: She didn't want to get a minivan until we had 3 kids--and since we didn't have 3, sedan it was. Her mommy-mobile was a Camry; the first one she compromised on color because it was a manual transmission. Second one she picked out what she wanted, and it had to be the base model hybrid, as it had the most mpg's. I can tell, based on the dirt I've washed off, it's seen far more dirt roads than most mall crawlers.

Stay at home mom who got her masters in microbiology while taking care of two kids in diapers. She might not be typical. [Actually, it's a known fact that she has a screw loose--she married me after all.]

Because that’s what people want. Look at the “I deserve” culture. Heck even comforts like AC, which were options in cars until the not too distant past are now mandatory. And it’s not just cars. It’s every area of life. “Fancy” sells.

There are good ones out there.

a company that manages to sell a product with cosmic profit margins has my admiration. they managed to convince the world the Wrangler was the greatest thing since the Saturn 5 rocket and should be priced like the Saturn 5 accordingly. it's one of the greatest genius move of this era. it has Gordon Gekko seal of approval.

That's been in the works for a while now, before Stellantis. They've been pushing that direction with Grand Cherokee since the Fiat merger with the WK2 and leaned harder into it with the Grand Cherokee L and now the Wagoneer.

Problem is, their dealership model isn't configured around selling $100K SUV's to people who want a waiting room with designer leather seating and a $10K coffee machine while an attractive staffer in a black dress asks you if "everything is OK?" and if she can get you anything, while you wait (my BMW dealership experience).

You've got a subset of expensive "more luxury" products in a brand (Jeep) that historically, isn't and that's awkward. This has always been the gripe with Cadillac and Lincoln too, you are going to a Ford/Chevrolet showroom, dealing with a Ford/Chevrolet Parts/Service department, but paying Mercedes/BMW/Audi money for the vehicle.
