Currently im using 5w30 havoline SM for the time being. I own a 06 nissan titan truck with about 1800 miles now. I plan on towing/hauling numerous of times in the summer down here in very hot Texas. I mostly do 90% city driving, short trips (15 mile commutes a day), various WOTs, and quick full-throttles. The manual calls for 5w30, 10w30, or 10w40.

I am already decided on the use of mobil 1 synthetic during the hot summer months with the towing due to upcoming family trips.
I would like to know if i should go with a 5w30, 10w30, or the 10w40 synthetic for all year round. And is it true that mobil 1 synths dont use viscosity index improvers in the 5w/10w30's? I would like to stick to one viscosity for all year round if that's possible with my driving conditions thanks.

I have the same question as you do. I have an 01 Toyota tacoma v6 and live in Texas where it gets hot all summer(its been in the 80's for last week). I use this as the second vehicle and family vacations. When it gets used its primarily highway miles and often towing a popup camper. I am currently running Mobil 1 EP 5w30. I put this in a month ago after a auto rx cleansing/rinse. I would like to run the same weight oil year round. Is the Mobil 1 EP 5w30 good for a once a year oil change? I will probably only put 7K-10K a year on the truck, it has 45K on it now.

Try M1 Truck & SUV oil for year round use in your neck of the woods. It's a 5W-40 rated oil and will do your engine good!!

That advice won't do you wrong. You can run as long as the warranty OCI will let you with this oil. Good stuff.

Ambient temps mean very little to the temp of the oil. Assuming 5w30 is the spec'd oil for you vehicle, run Mobil 1 with confidence, your vehicle will be well served.

It's highly unlikely that i will be using any other weights besides 5w30, 10w30, or 10w40 due to it being manufacturer specs.

Im primarily concerned with oil shearing/breaking down due to my heavy high rpm drivings. If i believe a 5w30 won't shear down as much as oppose to a dino 10w30 or 10w40, i'd think that i should stick to a 5w30 synth for all year round.

You get fuel for free or something? Cause I KNOW you aren't concerned about fuel mileage or the cost of it.

BTW, I'd keep using 5W30 in it.

Truckers already know the drawback to buying a truck in that these gassers eat up fuel quickly. Beside the point, no i dont get free fuel. In fact, i use high priced regular unleaded fuel like shell or chevron. I, for one, could care less about fuel or the heavy number of oil capacity my truck has. But the upside in buying trucks is SAFETY, towing/hauling capabilities, family-minded vehicle, easy-to-see if in the rear of another car, impressive for the long vacation trips, and most important of them all.... lots of horsepower and torque!

I do various WOTs and full throttles, because i dont like to baby my big v8 engine. I'd buy these things for the enjoyment as well as for the usefulness of it... thanks for asking thooks =)

if 10w40 is specd for this engine the 5w40 will do just fine in that engine. mobil says that they designed this oil for engines that spec 5w30, 10w30 or 10w40. someone else here used the M1 0w40 and had good results with it.

I saw that M1 0w40 posting with that titan. In fact i researched all the titans in the UOA sample analysis and havent really decided on using outside manufacturer specs. Besides that, the mobil 0w40 really did well. I tend to agree mobil TSUV 5w40 would be suited as well, although mobil 0w40 is wayyyyyy much better =). I'd probably go with the 0w40 upon asking the nissan dealership if it's permissable (they are strict on manufacturer specs. i tend to believe).

Im currently running amsoil series 3K which is a diesel and gas rated oil and so far is doing pretty good in my 3.4L Tacoma. The reason im using this oil is im about over on my warrenty and i plan on longer drain intervals and my truck seems to like the thicker 30W oil, i get not valve clatter in the mornings.
