Starting A Car After 5 Years

Anything made in the last few decades isn't really going to care too much. I bought a Chev G20 campervan that sat for over 10 years, just threw a battery in it and then drove to the nearest gas station for some fresh fuel. It's still driving around to this day with the new owners.

I'd get some fresh gas in it, make sure all the fluids are full. I would not change the oil yet. Hook it up to a good battery, if it has clear flood mode use that to build oil pressure by cranking the engine, if not pull the fuse for the fuel pump. Give it a few blasts of starting fluid that has a little top oil in the mix, and fire it up. Once you have it running change the oil and filter. Then take any additional work from there depending on the final plans for the car.

See Post #37, OP got it started and running yesterday by just jumping the battery.

Couple gallons fresh gas and a new battery. Change the oil once you get it running. I think Stabil has a product for old gas if you want to bother.
Sta-bil only keeps new gas from chemically degrading, it does not fix old gas already gone bad. I used to work for a fleet, one time I had a conversation with another mechanic asked him how long does gas last before going bad? He thought 6 months at the longest.

I would put in a new battery and add a jump with heavy cables to a large battery in a different vehicle during the first start.

You don't want the load of the starter pushing pistons in cylinders with rust to cause the battery voltage to drop low enough to prevent a good strong spark and get the sparkplugs wet with fuel. If that happens you'll have to replace those sparkplugs before it will start.
