Not that I use either one but just for the sake of conversation. Which would offer better/faster cold start protection 15W or 20W50 versus a Mono-grade 30 wt. Say in an operating range between 32f and 105f. Say in an older car; Say anything before 2001.
 
It doesn't really matter, there is more than a sufficient MOFT from either oil to protect at startup. Pumping and crankability are the worry in any oil, not "startup wear." At 32F either one will pump although if your battery is not great it may have cranking problems.

You didn't specify a manufacturer, so I just stole some numbers off of Mobil website on random oil grades. Not exactly an answer to your question, just food for thought.
