This from my 2.5l 94 Jeep Wrangler with 230 something thousand miles. I had a bunch of random oils left over so I did a franken brew and dumped a quart of MMO in with it. Oil was still clean and free of particles when I drained it and the filter is also free of "sludge."

The filter held extreemly well as all the Ecores I cut open. No odd holes or anything. Compare this to the OCOD I cut open a couple months ago. http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/forums/ubb...881#Post1756881

Not bad for a filter that is under 3 bucks, american made, and is supposed to cause catastrophic engine failure and cancer of the fingernails from contact with such a horrible, horrible, filter.

Quite a few photos so if your on dial up, just dont even try.

I would like to add that the can was thick and the leaf spring and ADBV/bypass were not loose like the frams.
I replaced it with another Ecore but a ST 8A, much larger.

Very impressive photography. Thanks for sharing and it looks like the filter did well. I don't much care for the endcap design (too much like a Fram) but we've never seen one that has failed so it must be okay. I use ST's on occasion and never any issues. My latest filter of choice has been the Bosch.

OCOD = orange can of death (i.e. Fram)
Not all orange fram filters are bad, just the ones that are opened up and inspected, probably 75% of the time.

Np, I agree that the end cap design is not as good as the steel ones but it gets the job done IMO for 7500 or less OCIs. Much better construction than a fram as I cut both open frequently.

And hey, you cant ask more for a 2.84 filter . hehe

That's a well constructed ecore! Nothing like the 4 I opened up unfortunately. If they were all put together as nicely as yours I'd have no problems using them.

I saw those, and I admit they are ugly. I would have forwarded those to champ. What I can think of is it was a bad lot. As I have cut open and posted ST PF47 eq. on here from astro vans. But my faith would have been shaken a bit if I ever saw one like that.

Either your engine is pretty dang clean or there isn't any evidence of MMO doing anything. Did you notice any changes during the OCI?

Yes, When I got the MMO out and the new oil in (10-30 Valvoline WB.) my lifer tick was gone. I suspect that the tick was caused by either the MMO being too thin or the ST8 allowing more oil to flow, dont know. Either way it is gone now.

Under my oil cap the engine is very varnished, PO did not take very good care for her.

Also usually the oil is very dark when I do 3k on this car, but this time it was very clean.

I bought an 06 4.0 wrangler back in Oct...do not know the OCI of the previous owner (a lady) but the initial inspection through the oil fill hole on the valve cover showed a decent amount of varnish....after a single run of mobil one the varnish was a good 3 shades lighter.

Your welcome for the photos.

AHHH I should have taken pictures of the filler hole to do a before and after. Too late.

The dreaded E-Core! All of the E-Cores i've cut open look fine and all of them I've used have worked fine. Yours seems to be no exception. I have no issues with them at all.

Seems like you were dealing with varnish vs sludge and the M1 did some cleaning for you before you added the MMO. Either way the filter held up just fine.

Nice pics man. Thank you for sharing. It's also good to see another squirrel powered YJ kicking around.

I have to warn you though, I don't know if you wheel your Jeep, but the ST8A / FL1A filter sizes are VERY close to the motor mount horn on the frame. If the riser bracket under the pass side motor mount ever let go, it would puncture your filter. Walmart around here used to carry Motorcraft FL300's (the next size down from the FL1A's, but still larger than the ST16 size), which it what I run on my '92 2.5L. The Purolator 14670's fit nice too. Jeebus, I still have a couple pre-ecore ST43's in the basement! Those were beefy!

I'm glad things have cleaned up in your engine. I'll bet your frame and body are mint too. Sometimes I wish I lived on the west coast...
