Hm, Megs Ultimate Protection I've never been a huge fan of, it's one of very few products in the Meg's line I don't like.

I've found that Zaino z-CS, which is really just a missed on and wipe around sealant, can really last months. Thing is, I have the whole Zaino system on my car from the clearcoat up.

well, I picked up some of the Nufinish paste wax in the can, gonna give that a shot this winter. This will also be my first time using a paste, I've always used the liquid type waxes/polishes in the bottle, usually Meguires Gold Class or Nxt Gen, Zymol a couple times, mostly because thats what my dad always used. I do remember seeing a bottle of the the Nufinish liquid stuff sitting around when I was a kid though. That and the reviews on here are what kinda made me want to give this a shot. Its my daily driver, so I'm not so much worried about the shine as I am the protection. Guy at work has always used paste type waxes on his vehicles, and they have always looked good, so thats what kinda made me want to try a paste. I will definately try the Duragloss 501 and Collinite 845 combo this spring though.

As far as cleaning goes, when I do the 501/845 combo this spring, is it still recommended to clay bar the car first, or does the 501 do a good enough job at "cleaning"? Again, a nice looking finish would be awesome, but I don't want to spend all day at it, my main concern is protection and the longevity of it. Thanks again guys for all the help, I've learned quite a bit just with this thread alone.

P.S. I was almost tempted to try a can of Turtle Wax for poops and giggles, just because thats what I remember all the "old timers" using:) For the little bit of money they get for it, I figured it can't be all that good though. I believe in the old adage you get what you pay for.

Clay bar the car first. 501 is a great paint cleaner, but it's just that, a paint cleaner. A clay bar will remove all the bonded contamination on your paint. 2 completely different products designed for totally different tasks.
BTW, if you prep that paint properly first, that 501/845 combo is going to look fantastic and have amazing protection. Good luck.

It's an excellent product, I use it but question how long any product would last on a car that hasn't even been washed since June. The surface has to be prepared correctly for any product to adhere. Look for a chemical paint cleaner such as Duragloss #501, Klasse AIO, or similar at a minimum. Follow up with a good sealant known for durability. A wax known for durability is Collinite #845 and spoken of quite often here..

+1 best spray wax durability and quick and easy to use

Why not just use Meguiar's Ultimate Quik Wax, it does contain Carnuba and can be had at a store for $9-$11. For a daily driver ordering might not be worth it in his case.

It is a Polymer sealant and does not contain carnauba wax. It is excellent and I use it but really expensive for the amount you get.

Hmm I've been under the impression that MUQW was a polymer/carnuba hybrid. I know you know your detailing products really well, but, are you sure???

After checking out auto geek again, you are right. My mistake

Still, I love it lol

I would be more tempted to try a WOWA sealant such as Zaino Z-CS or Ultima PGP if you can get a warm enough day to apply.

This is probably the best suggestion if you're after durability. Add Optimum Optiseal to the mix.

They're so easy to use that you can pretty much seal a whole car in less than 15 minutes.

A chimp can apply any of those products, I agree. What is not mentioned is the hours of work it takes to prep the surface so they will properly adhere for maximum durability.

This is exactly what I was thinking...
I think for most of us the problem is finding motivation and time to do a real washing/claying/cleaning and all that, that goes into prepping the paint before applying such a product...and I am a 'victim' of this too...procrastination...

Until I find time / motivation for that kind of work I am going to wash and just use some Klasse AIO and perhaps top it off with a sealant, even though I know it's not the proper way to do it...but the paint (white) on my 2005 BMW is in very good condition...

Yes it can.
I just detailed a 2013, brand new straight off the truck, it was hammered, swirls, scratches, etchings from bugs and bird droppings, embedded iron, you name it, just trashed.

As is usually the case, I THOUGHT I had time on sunday to wash and wax my Scion, but my wife had other plans. I atleast had time to mow the yard one last time and winterize the mower, chainsaw, and string trimmer. It will probably be a couple weeks before I can even think about doing it again. Definately want to get some wax on the car before we get snow though.

FW1 racing formula with carnuba wax that the company sells from under tents at stop 'n go gas stations is great stuff for a quickie clean/wax, AND a good product for headlight cleaning/UV protection too...

...it's overpriced @ $15-20 unless you bargain with the dudes...when you can get 3 cans for $30...

my "winter coat" takes me a day or two to do each vehicle.
wash/clay-polish if needed-an all in one buff-sealant and topped w/Collinite 885 Fleetwax. the 885 is the longest lasting wax I have come across for winter application. its an aeronautical and marine wax and a real PIA to remove if you leave it on too long.
