Spool Gun MIG Welding Aluminium

Last time I looked at MHG5B 1 lb spool gun from Snap-on it was around $1000 and I passed. My amateur and occasional use couldn't justify that expense at that time. I looked at it 2 years later, and it is quoted at $1550 now. I have the Muscle Mig Wire Feed Welder MM250SL that I acquired 'cheap' years ago, and this part number goes with it.

Is there any OEM alternative that is compatible yet not as expensive? Since Snap-On is most likely repackaging this apparatus and the attachment.

I got one free with the Miller, it was a special deal thing. Check the Miller and Lincoln guns out they may be the manufacturer for the SO machine.

Snap on doesn't make their own welders.

There WILL be a compatible spool from another vendor - just got to determine compatibility

But it's very difficult to do as the shaft strength of Alum wire is typically not enough to routinely weld with. Causes a birds net quite easily with smaller dia.(.030-.035) alum wire. This is my Miller set up.
