I once flew Air Tran from Baltimore to Mobile via somewhere down South.
My first flight was almost an hour late to the gate. I asked the attendant at the gate if I would need to arrange a new connection since I'd likely miss my second flight.
He said: "No, the schedule is just a suggestion. Your connecting flight will be late too."
I never flew them again.

I’d rather ride Greyhound or drive a Fit/Prius/Geo Metro beyond the city limits than fly Spirit.
