Spilled Techron on carpet? What to do?

Accidentally spilled techron additive on my carpet. Unfortunatly, about 1/4 or so of a bottle (I think) leaked from a grocery bag.

How do I clean this, and is it a health hazard that I should address with something more than attempting to clean it?

I'd think that cat litter, or some kind of oil absorbing agent would be a good place to start, and wouldn't hurt anything.

I've blotted it with towels, and have baking soda on it. Opened all the windows and turned off the heater (yeah, probably over paranoid on some of that). Headed to get a carpet cleaner/extractor now. Yay!

I had a bottle of Gumout fuel treatment leak on the rear seat fabric a few weeks ago. Lots of blotting up the offending liquid, followed by a rag with diluted dishsoap (Dawn) got it out of the fabric. Good luck, just be patient and keep repeating the blotting / soap treatment.
Plenty of warm water with dawn or simple green, lather it and shop vac it up. Do this several times and then begin the rinse cycle, same process without soap.

The best thing to do is to blot it up with a towel. Simple Green non diluted with a scrub brush will get alot out. Ideally you'll want a carpet steam cleaner. I have used oil eater as well as it's an enzyme and not caustic. Then sprinkle arm and hammer carpet powder found in your local hardware or grocery store. Then vacuum up.

Spill some on your pants, so that when the wife gets home and smells it, you can blame it on the pants rather than the carpet.
+1
Maybe put some in a spray bottle and spritz around the house with it, making sure to give the plants a bit extra.

Hey everyone, thanks. I went and rented a rug doctor and bought some simple green. Soaked the spot with the simple green, scrubbed it a bit with a brush, then ran just hot water through the machine to rinse the SG. Then did regular carpet cleaner and another round of rinse. Tomorrow I will see if I smell any more of the Techron where it spilled and go from there.

I decided to see just how much actually got into the carpet, so I poured the rest of the container into a measuring cup and it's looks less than an ounce missing, which is a lot less than I thought. Which is great. (y) I guess the bottle comes not particularly full (or my cheap ass plastic measuring cup I use for oil is very, very off, hah). Smelled really **** strong where it spilled though and all the towels I used smelled really bad too.

Thanks for all the responses! I really appreciate the kindness. I was really worried there was a ton in my carpet and that it was going to be a really, really big problem/make my family sick. Lesson learned: don't forget your bag from the store has nasty chemicals in it and remove the nasty chemicals to the garage before they have a chance to spill on a carpet, hah!
