speedometer stopped working

Today my dad's 2000 Nissan Quest's speedometer stopped working while the car was being driven. Anyone know what the cause may be? I don't know if it's related but last week he had a brake job and transmission flush done. It was done at Midas. Thanks to all replies.

Would that be an electric speedometer? I'm thinking a plug or wire or something related may have come undone during the transmission flush.

Is the transmission still shifting properly, And did they use the right transmission fluid?

I don't know the difference between electrical and non electrical. It's a gauge type not digital, if that is the question. I wasn't with him that day and he didn't know any better than to get a flush instead of a drain and refill with a filter change.

It's gotta be an electric/electronic dash. It's gotta have a VSS and that's gotta be integrated by the PCM/EMC to tell the dash what to display (where to move the needle).

If he hasn't got any problems ..then it's not likely that the PCM isn't getting the VSS signal.

Then again, if he's only done a few miles since the speedo quit ..he may not have run into the issues yet.

Is the odometer still working?

Although a 1993, the speedometer quit working on the old corolla but the odometer still worked. I had to replaced the speedo head in the dash.

could be the battery needs a charge. Same thing happened to me a coupla weeks ago on my 00' Voyager. Speedo doesn't get enough juice from a weak battery and stops working, all other gauges incl. odo OK. Overnight on the battery charger fixed it right up.

It's strange but this morning when he started the car the speedo started working again.
