bosch plat +4's are pretty much a joke, along with their oil filters.

what bosch is known for is their "super" sparkplugs. try those somtime, they are 99 cents each.

I concur on the Plus 4 plugs, but I disagree on the oil filters. At least the ones made by Bosch in Germany are excellent. I can't speak for the Bosch filters made by Champion for the NA market. The dealer will sell the "Made in Germany" Bosch filters.

Divide by 12 and you'll get the torque spec in ft/lbs.

so 156 in/lb= 13 ft/lb

thanks....now i know...later ill re-torque it...

Bosch Platinums are the worst plugs I have ever tried, by far. I tried them in 2 cars about 10 years ago and they wore out in under 10k miles. The best plugs I have tried are NGK coppers. I have used Bosch Super copper plugs without any problems, too. And they are cheap, usually $0.99 at all local parts stores.

The only platinum plugs I have gotten good results out of are NGK laser platinums. They last as advertized (about 60k miles) and don't cause any problems.

Just a little more on Bosch Platniums.

Here is a post by a member of my forum asking about spark plugs, edited for space.

"Hey guys, wanna run something by ya. I changed out my plugs with bosche platinums and a friend of mine who has owned several buicks including the GN told me that gapping them was not necessary. The guy at the auto store told me to gap them at .060. My friend said that as long as their is no obvious difference in gap size between all 6 with the naked eye then they should be OK. I went ahead and took his word for it and installed them as is. Now my T is having a ***** of a time starting in the cold; it will fire but not all the way to running. After it warms up and has run for awhile, it will start back up just fine.... Pretty obvious to me but what do you all think?"

My response:

"Bosch Platniums are a bad plug for GM's DIS. They will wear quickly due to the high voltage of our ignition. Rapidfires are a good buy for the money, so are GM's double platniums..."

His follow up:
"ok, about the spark plugs...BOSCHE platinums suck A**!. I took the advice from this board and installed AC Rapidfires (bosche only had 50 miles on them at swap out) and it started up at 12 deg F outside without skipping a beat. Thanks, fellas. I'm happy now....."

A lot of Mercedes vehicles specify Bosch copper plugs. Some owners tried platinum in the vehicles and reported having problems with them. Probably the same is true for other vehicles.

Permatex antisieze is available at nearly every auto supply house. It usually advertises that it's good for high temperture use. Every person who wrenches on cars should have a bottle in their toolbox. I'm still using the one I got 20 years ago.
