My 2008 Scion xB's OEM plug are NGK Iridium Laser plugs... Don't need changed for 100k miles. I was surprised when I saw that! But I plan to change at 60-75... Cheap and easy maintenance!

If you get a brand name (ie, quality) wire I see no reason why you should get less than 100k out of them. My brothers 93 Nissan pick up has 220k miles on the factory wires, my Saturn is 173k on the factory set. However, on more than a few new Ford's I've got less than 30k miles on them before one shorted out. But 20k miles is seemingly excessive for preventive maintenance. I usually don't change them out until they start getting really cruddy looking or a new set of plugs doesn't give it as much "pep" as they usually do.

Yes I agree I probably spent money when I should not have. I really didn't need the new wires last year, and the current ones should be just fine for another year at least if not longer. The cap, rotor and plugs are a different story though. I always replace them around 20K. It's a good time to remove and clean the throttle body too. A nice weekend project in the cool weather.
