Something like the Microgreen

Hello, I have been looking at the Microgreen filters recently and have been wondering if there are any other filters out there that are the same type of filter (standard 20 micron media with 5 micron filter top)

My vehicle uses a Purolator L12222

I was wondering if any other companies make a filter like this that is cheaper than Microgreens price of $15 a filter.
 
I have not seen anything like a microGreen before, if you want a reasonably priced filter with more than enough filtration why not just go with the Pureone? They are more than sufficient for spin on needs.
 
Its just personal interest of something I may or may not try depending on price

I cant find P1's easily in my area
 
What do you have available in your area? I am not sure you will find anything to match the MicroGreen; it appears to be one of a kind from what i see.
 
well the only place in my "area" is 45min away to get filters without ordering online (amazon, canada one does not have filters and duty on the american site is like $40 so I would need to buy alot to make it worth it (everything costs more up here))

I can easily find Purolator Classic, Bosch Premium, Purolator Synthetic, possibly Napa filters, and maybe Baldwins... and Fram (ultras are like $18 so not paying that, K&N even more). Sure I have a good choice of filters I guess.

Its just that if I can find Microgreen or an equivalent thats what I would like to run/cut open for BITOG and my personal curiosity.

If you know your going to keep your car awhile then buying in bulk online is a good idea, especially if you have limited supply locally like you do.

Napa filters are a great choice, made by Wix, but i don't think anything will match the filtering rating of the MicroGreen. That being said do you need a MicroGreen? Probably not, but unless you want to pay the premium i would look at the better value for your money.
 
Donaldson, Filtran and Fleetguard all make similar double filters but the applications are all heavy duty. If you have a diesel pickup, you MIGHT find an application that works. I have never seen any car or light truck gas applications (there might be a few that could be researched by size).

The closest thing to a MicroGreen filter that I'm aware of is the Trasko filter. It uses a wire mesh filter for its full-flow part of the filter and a small toilet paper type roll for the bypass part. I have used both (the MicroGreen once and the Trasko about 8 times) and I've posted used oil analysis for both.

In my opinion they're both decent filters. I thought the MicroGreen was pricey. The lower price makes it more palatable

Please be aware though that since micgroGreen does not publish filtration statistics for their filter, a comparison based on performance is not possible.
 
There is nothing commercially available for autos like the mircrogreen.

There are a are a few filters sort of like it available for diesels that use stacked disks as bypass media, but the MG is the only unit using a PTFE membrane second stage.

Mircrogreen publishes a result vs a fixed 4548-12 stated performance metric. Although they make claims in their material about micron size they are elusive about specific data.

The result MG does back up is that you can use 3 of them in 30K at 10 K intervals and the sump quality will be useable. NO one else makes this claim.

The limited firsthand data we have shows that it works as advertised, their fleet contract business would seem to indicate it works as well.

No, they do not. What they say is:

The trasko is pretty cool and from what I can tell works the exact opposite as everything else in that

It bypasses the majority of the time and only scrubs at a very low rate, but very thoroughly - its really a bypass only filter.

Right, well how do you know that the microGreen filter retains "enough to matter"? It seems to me the claim would be identical in both situations. That of course is the point. Without efficiency numbers the micron size is irrelevant.

And we were talking about filtering efficiencies, not making a sump last for 3K using 3 of them, whatever that means exactly. I think you meant 30K.

Perhaps they are identical as you say.

One has vastly superior value proposition and sump claim - regardless of how it "gets there".

Yes I meant 30K - I corrected my typo thanks for pointing it out. .

What is totyotas suggested interval or sump life claim?

It depends on the vehicle of course, but it is the manufacturer's specified oil change interval. But again we were talking about oil filtering efficiency as published by the filter manufacturer so that effective comparisons could be made between filters.

But on that subject, I for one would never, ever run any oil with any number of filter changes beyond 7500 miles in my old Sienna, considering the gear-driven camshafts and the excessive head temperatures on the 1MZ-FE engine. A microGreen filter would not help with mechanical shearing and heat related degradation of the oil, would it? TBN retention is not my primary concern in that engine.
