huh. 6 pages and no one yet admitted that they themselves have made driving mistakes on occasion.
but no... it's always 'the other guy'...

glad to see this forum has all the perfect drivers contributing.

It's the high number of motorcyclists here.

Making a mistake means being on the pavement under or sans-bike...or worse.

Years of SIPDE carries over to car driving.

I do make mistakes...but I know what I was thinking. Like the time I pitched a rental Fusion into a cloverleaf way too hot. It's the same chassis as my car. The seating position, steering wheel, brake and accelerator were all in the same place so it lulled me into thinking I was in a much more capable handling car. The loud howl of the tires and almost putting it into the embankment was correction enough. No one else was involved but me and the poor Fusion.

All drivers (myself included) make mistakes. However, the thread is referring mostly to drivers that just perpetually do stupid things, not a little mistake here and there.

People who obey the law and people who don't obey the law are in constant battle. This is the cause of stress and road rage.

I like how a person is so polite to you in person but it's the same guy/girl who flicks me off when I'm driving 65 MPH(+/-4) in a 65 MPH highway.

If you were driving at speed limit(+/-4) on the left lane while the right lane is emptied.

You're not suppose to drive on the left lane unless if you're passing. A person who follows the law should know that so you shouldn't have to worry about that.

It's nice to make your acquaintance! You'll recognize me easily, if we should encounter each other out there on the road. I'm the other guy in Ohio who understands this...

We have many left lane bandits here in So Cal, I saw many crossing 3-4 lanes when they entered the freeway and cruising on the left most lane at speed limit, even the right lanes were near empty.

I like these driving rants.

You know what makes me go bonkers?

You're 6 cars back. The light goes green, and 15 seconds later the car in front of you begins to accelerate.

The light goes red.
Traffic backs up even further.

I hear that in Tokyo all the cars move as if a train when the light goes green.

In Germany, a driver's license cost 5k$ + and it is drilled into you, keep right except to pass. Doing 200 kph on those lonely stretches on the Autobahn? Get in the right lane soon as possible cause here comes a Porsche doing 240.

Here, one brags about the quality and quantity of one's driving distractions sure in the knowledge the world does indeed revolve around oneself.

Left lane mentality, hurry up and stop, lemme finish writing this text before I pay attention to the road.

Amazing there are not more accidents.

Also, it is indeed true, here in S. California when it rains, most drivers speed up on the oily freeways and then tailgate.

It's a pathetic snapshot of our culture.

In my honest opinion: Driving is the number 1 proof that humans are the dumbest creatures in the universe. We can't control ourselves on the roads and we can't control ourselves in mass crowds.

I recall having to watch it at a 3 hour driving course required to get my learner's permit many years ago. Things haven't changed much since this was made. Enjoy.

The video explains SOME driver behaviour but does not address driver behaviour in the original post. This kind of driver behaviour in the OP is a result of apathy and laziness, all too common human traits and not just limited to drivers.

You only have to look at the large numbers of able-bodied people on government assistance to see the results of apathy and laziness.

As time goes on, one of my pet peeves is the waste of resources, be they human, economic, or physical. You see it a lot in auto accidents, where people get injured or killed, and good vehicles destroyed. Most error is human error, and mechanical error is mostly caused somewhere down the line by the former.

I was at a red light on an upgrade the other day. The guy next to me spent three minutes riding his clutch with the car rocking back and forth. That same guy will complain about his clutch plate wearing out in only 10,000 miles.

people regress into babies when they get behind the wheel

their otherwise intelligent thought process degenerates into "me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me"

until they get out of the car

I did an install on a Mercedes Benz S430 this morning.

S-Class...nice car right?

Amongst the myriad of messages about tire pressure and what not that bombarded me when I turned the fob to the on position was this curious note:
"WARNING! You are 925 days past your A-Service."
925.
That's like two and a half years.

How does one invest that much money into a car and completely neglect it?

Mostly.

If you are not moving quickly enough to get on the train, the ever so polite Japanese will push you. I'm a full foot taller than most Japanese and they pushed me. So I pushed the person in front of me who did the same....

I've still gotta love the "I need to get 1 car length ahead by any means necessary" crowd. Case in point, numbskull in the ginormous SUV apparently didn't like coasting at 40MPH down the hill, and it's a 35MPH zone. Illegally passes me in the no-passing zone, floors it, and ends up in the big line of cars stopped at the light only a few seconds ahead. Really? Aren't you special. You sure showed me, and look how far ahead you got. But I was turning left, so I went left of him and got in the turn lane, several cars ahead of him.

I see that happen consistently. I just concluded that for some people, even a small increment means a great deal to their fragile ego.

Bingo.

I've lost count of how many times someone pulls out from a side road in front of me, despite the fact that there's no traffic at all behind me and if they waited 2 seconds, they wouldn't have cut me off. Had this happen again last Saturday, in fact, a woman in a Land Rover looked right at me and then pulled out in my path. I was driving the Dakota, which is bright red, so if she didn't see me, she really should let her guide dog do the driving......

I've noticed that, more often than not, the idiots that pull out in front of you are also the ones who drive 5 under the limit.

Apparently, they're in a hurry to slow someone down.

Oddly enough, when I drive the bluesmobile it happens a lot less than when I'm driving my Saab.

excellent point, brianl703. I'm in a semi-rural area and people just don't want to go the speed limit after they pull out in front of you, and in fact are almost militant about *not* accelerating past 45 or so when the limit is 55.

I want one of these on my car....
