Some 2013 Ford Escapes have been recalled twice

Some 2013 Ford Escapes have two recalls on them already. One is for brake pedal interference with the carpet (posted earlier), and now another one that was posted today for defective fuel lines that have caused fires.

I keep getting updates on this from one of my co-workers who is trying to buy a 2013 Escape. Her particular car's been recalled twice now, and she hasn't even taken delivery yet.
 
The 2.0 EB would be fun, and I've only read good reviews. If I were buying however, I'd wait 1 year. I had similar issues with a new '97 Explorer Sport (first model year of minor redesign with new engine/transmission). On it, I had 3 recalls in the first year.

The new design has to grow on me. I like it, but it looks somewhat girly -- like the rest of the cute 'utes now (Tuscon, etc).
 
I went to look at one last weekend and the dealer told me some 2500 Escapes had been damaged by hail (in Kentucky, I think he said?). I wonder how they're going to repair the damage and if you'd want to own one of those that had been repaired... It sure looks like a nice little wagon- err, I mean, "SUV" though.

New design CRV has one too as of today. Open the door handle and operate power lock at same time it can snap a cable in door. This can lead to unexpected opening of door.
 
The recall on the fuel lines is an interesting one. They are instructing the dealers to put a delivers hold and a drive hold an all affected units. If any units that are under the recall have been sold, the dealers are supposed to have them towed in and not drive them. They don't have parts for us to order yet, or a procedure for the techs to follow. Would rather see this than tell people they are working on the problem than to pretend the problem isn't there.

I also agree.

Also when you consider how incredibly complex cars are today than just a decade ago it is a surprise to me how reliable and trouble free most are. Not that I am a fan of the complexity at all. I'd rather own a car from the mid 90s or earlier because they are easier to trouble shoot and repair.
 
Everybody is on pins and needles with recalls,after Toyota hid its issues after almost 10 years.Nobody wants to seem to be the badguy or the holdout.

LOL. They do see to have a lot of problems with new generation vehicles, ie Focus.

Ugh!! Don't get me started on the Focus. I'm sure it's a much better vehicle now but that 2000 year model...

Funny, I have yet to see one of these things actually on the road. Have seen them at dealers though. They look pretty good.

It looks like Darth Vader's helmet set on wheels.

That being said, I got Ford stock for a decent price, so I hope they sell a ton of them!
 
When I heard this on the news last night, they mentioned this effecting ~5K new 1.6L Escapes. I assume the actual # of them on the road. It's probably even less than that.

Majority are in dealer inventories. They have a delivery / demonstration / drive hold on all the affected units.
 
Does anyone know the root cause of the problem? Was it bad material choice? Bad manufacturing by the supplier? I don't even know what happens to cause a fire; does the fuel line split or crack or...??
