There was a local performer names Pat Travis who had a beautiful voice and was a great acoustic guitar player. She use to perform at the local Boarders Book store and some of the songs she sang with her husband. Pat also was active in a local origination called calliope that supports folk music, that I was a member of. Calliope use to meet once a month in a large room in a local library and we would put the chairs in a big circle and would take turns playing what ever instrument you brought and sing a song you knew when it was your turn. If the others knew the song they were welcome to sing and or play along. Pat was blind in one eye and could only see out of the other if something was right in front of her. Still she use to read to the blind over the radio. I heard Pat perform many times at Boarders and have all of her CDs. She passed away a few days after an operation for a brain tumor several years ago. Some of her songs are for children, but the quality of her voice and her guitar playing makes even those songs worth listening to.
I have a large collection of music, and one of the things I listen for is the quality of the voice, and the quality of the instruments. Some of them are a little too sappy for some people to listen to, but it is the quality of the sound that makes it worth listening to for me, even if the topic of the song is a little sappy.

Also, I 100% agree with carviewsonic in that I will not listen to rap. I do not even consider rap as music. There is no quality to the voice, and no quality instrumental accompaniment. It totally lacks both of the qualities that I listen for in the music that I like.
