So do people who did a 1500 mile clean and 2000 mile rinse (2X) need to do a third clean and rinse using the updated inst? I am on the ARX maint. plan, so maybe that is all that is needed?

Donald your fine results will match just take more time. Engine performance gains will come with 2nd or 3rd Auto-Rx maintenance aplication.
The first time I tried Auto-Rx I could tell it was making a difference within the first 30 miles. I've been impressed with ARX ever since.
I've not had a lot of success however getting friends and family to follow the old 1500 mile clean / 2000 mile rinse instructions. I'm glad Frank decided to come out with some new ones because I think they are now much easier to follow.

Frank, is holding off on a maintenance dose for 3k miles after finishing a second cleaning phase advisable, or should I put in the maintenance dose?

The maintenance dose is to be applied after the first oil change (as your really getting another rinse with first oil change after Auto-Rx application is done) You want the cleanaest metal possible to start maintenance program with.
