Not a lot of room on the Protege5. Fun to drive, but not space efficient.
My Pontiac Vibe was better organized than the P5.
Sadly, my boy totaled it, so he's now driving the quarter million mile Camry.

A cute little thing that should deliver good fuel economy and should hold up well for you.
I don't mean to be a wet blanket, but I'd bet that you could have bought a brand new one for a few pence more with some shopping.
Buying a car is only fun if you don't really need one now.
Buying the BMW was fun because I wanted a summer daily driver ragtop but didn't have to have a car.
Buying the '12 Accord was fun because we didn't really have to have a new car at the time, so I could let the dealers beat one another up while I emailed around for pricing.
When you have to have a car, it isn't as much fun.

When we traveled with ours, we just let him lay on the floor of the minivan we then had.
He was fine with that since he loved riding in a car with his people. The only problem was that lots of folks wanted to touch him when we made rest stops and Great Pyrenees dogs are not usually very receptive to strangers.

I really like it. I think I am going to remove the rear seat bottoms to give me a little more legroom, save weight, and also adds room to slip some small, long items under the folded down rear seats. I plan on leaving the rear seats down full-time. But the rear seats are legitimately useful for an adult. I am 6'1 and still have several inches of headroom, though my knees do just touch the rear of the front seat, way more confortable than the back seats of many '5 seat' small cars I have ridden in. I really like how much 'stuff' I got for the price. Power everything, mylink infotainment system, cruise control, and etc. on a nearly new car for not that much.

You're better off with the 4AT. It's an Aisin Automatic. The CVTs are made by Jatco (Nissan). Aisin automatics are extremely reliable, Jatco CVTs are ... notoriously unreliable.
I can fit, quite comfortably in the back seat of the Spark. Something I can't do in my 2011 Focus, which is two sizes larger.
Only thing I think I would do with a spark is throw a spare in the back instead of the inflator kit.

Mileage is good. I have an extremely short commute of about 1.5 miles, so my average is only 32. Average on my old buick could drop to 16 or so if I didn't make any highway trips on a tank, so even without trying its a huge improvement. I was planning on riding my bike to work as much as possible, but I really like driving my new car
I do find myself letting off the gas to coast up to a stop sign or light and thinking to myself "I should have done that 30 seconds ago" so I have a lot of room for improvement on that. I do plan on getting a spare, atleast for longer trips outside of my usual area.
With the seats down and the back area covered by some movers blankets there's plenty of room for Shelby. A crate fits too, but for quick trips to the park I think this works better.
