I wanted to get your advice on something I got involved in. I'm fairly knowledgeable when it comes to automobiles, but don't know much about pickup trucks since I've never owned one. My son had a Dodge Ram pickup truck last year and bought a "Western Ultramount" snow plow for it. Apparently the plows are the same for all trucks, but you need a "lower frame mounting bracket" made to fit your particular truck model, in order to use the plow on your truck. So he bought that too, of course. Fast forward to now. He traded the Dodge in for an F250 SuperDuty, so he says he has to buy a new mounting bracket to install the plow on the Ford. He says that these brackets (with sleeves, whatever that is) cost over $500 new. So he wants to sell his Dodge bracket. I volunteered to help him sell it since he is afraid of computers.
First, does this make sense, am I getting an accurate story from him? He has a habit of believing everything anybody tells him and then later regretting it when they turn out to be wrong. (A few years ago, against my advice, he paid some backyard mechanic a couple thousand to rebuild a transmission for him, even though the guy had no references or real business to back him up. The trans lasted about a week.) My question is what is the best way to sell this stuff (Dodge Ram mounting hardware and sleeves)? I was thinking Craigslist or eBay? Is there much demand for something like this? What could he hope to get back for it? (He says everything is in practically new condition cause he only used it for a month). Where can he buy the new Ford bracket and get a good deal? I didn't find anything on the internet.
Also, he says he wants to get a collapsible or gooseneck hitch for the F250. Any recommendations about where to get this?
Any comments are welcome.
