Snowblower choke

I have a Noma Snowblower that only starts and runs with the choke fully on. Been like that for 12+ years i owned it. I just finished clearing the 16 inches of fresh snow. Any ideas why choke needs to be on for it to run? Thank guys

Agreed. The carburator needs cleaning.

Clean the jet that is in the bottom of the carb bowl. I believe it is the main jet. Get a can of carb cleaner with a straw and blast it out, or use a strand of copper wire.

Most common problem I have seen on OPE. Ethanol in fuel = water in fuel = some type of main jet clogging life form.

Quick question. My carb has a screw with a spring and that threads in to a nut on the bowl. Can someone explain what i need to do? Unscrew screw with spring or just the nut with spring screw still attached. Thanks

Pics please. Some carbs I have seen have a drain on them that is closer to the outside of the bowl. The bolt you need to remove holds the bowl onto the carb, so it should be in the center of the bowl. Also, if you use carb cleaner do not get any on the gaskets, it will ruin them.

The device you describe is the main jet and you could start with backing off a half turn at a time while opening the choke to see if thats the problem. If no change then pull and clean the ethanol crap out of that carb. If your not using fuel saver it will help.

The screw on the bottom is the high speed adjustment. Screw it in a little until the engine runs rough, screw it out a little until the engine runs rough, choose the spot in between that it runs the best.I

The carb is dirty, remove it and spray in every hole, most likely you'll need to buy a Chinese carb for $15. His many hp? 632334 is for 8-10hp.

I reviewed a few video on this old carb. It has both the bowl drain and the adjustable main jet. The 8hp Noma Snow King blower was purchase new by me in 1994. I always remember it running with the choke full on. After the winter here i will play with main jet adjustment to see if that fixes the choke issue, if not I'll remove the main jet and clean it. I did purchase a new carb on Amazon a few years ago but never swapped it out. It does have a fixed main jet though. You think it is a direct replacement for the adjustable main jet carb i have on it now?

Direct replacement for the carb but you can't switch the fixed key to the adjustable.

UPDATE:

Cleaned main jet and bowl. Now it runs with choke off first time in 20+ years! Not sure why i never tried cleaning the carb before. Thanks everyone.
