These are my "snow lights". They're $19.95 Walmart yellow 3 inch round fog lights with a relay wiring upgrade. (They're also ACC switched on my ignition, so they don't work during engine crank or key off.)
As fog or rain lights, these cheapies are pretty miserable, with too much upward beam that reflects of the drizzle. Yuck.
Sometimes during, but definately after, snow, they're awesome. I mounted them as low as I could securely put them. This magnifies ruts, banks, and the texture of on-road snow from the difference in perspective. I use them with headlights, of course, and the different colors add to the shaping effect.
At first I found no good place to put these, and had them dangling below the bumper. I wasn't comfortable and figured they'd rip off on a parking curb or even a snow bank. So I examined my bumper cover closely and found there are "voids" where in fact there is nothing important behind the aero part. With my trusty sawzall I hacked somewhat round holes for my lights.
The walmart $20 yellow fogs have rotating bases, so I could put the brackets 90 degrees sideways for my mounting position. Yet the filament and reflector remain horizontal for adequate beam spread.
In summary these are awesome when I head into work at 4:30 am. It's a fun time to snow-drive as the road crews leave random banks as they work that they probably plan to "come by for later".
