Drinking my morning coffee, this thread reminds me of the days listening to office conversations/debates about the pro's and con's of those new fangled computers
Its technology and here to stay, if people learn how it works, it saves you money, significant money. This puts you at an advantage because the typical consumer in every low to high income bracket doesnt bother to learn how things like "Peak Time Usage" works or care to understand the workings of their home, regarding cost effective insulation appliances such as ondarvr a few posts above this one.
More or less no one holds your hand and teaches you how to do it. You have to do it on your own, because their is no profit for companies of any kind.

All this garbage marketed to you by the BIG technology companies and every retailer in the world with "smart home" wifi devices.
They make it fun because you buy their devices and they make HUGE profits as well as get into your home internet to learn everything about you/your children and what to sell you next, but never really use them to save money, you use them like a child uses a toy, they hold your hand, you say oh this is cool and then you tire of it and they sell you a new one in another year or two..
The biggest scam in the world are "Smart Thermostats" for most people (NOT EVERYONE) because most people never bother to actually look to save money but they like the idea that google tells them is a smart device to save money, yet they can do it on their own if they by a simple programmable thermostat or stats and actually program them to a schedule and stick to it, rather then the temperature adjusting on a whim so your nice and cozy.
Only place wifi is a true useful tool is in an unoccupied home or vacation home, it allows you to keep up to date about a heat/air malfunction, more so in feeding temperatures. Other then that, the majority of people save no money at all and most like waste more energy because they cant stick to a schedule and everyone in the home adjusts it up and down on a whim.
this post is only if people look to save energy costs or the "other camp" who claim to want to stop the earth from being warmed by the sun, wifi devices are great if saving money or the need to save money isnt there.
