REALLY hot and humid here in VA... 2 hours trimming and cutting, just need to blow away the trimmings... Aaaaaannnnnnd it won't start
. I am beat, running out of daylight, so Army instinct kicked in and I decided to go for a quick field expedient repair:
- Little (Felt?) air filter was moist, but did not appear to be clogged (Pulled, blown off, hit it with some intake cleaner and set aside to dry)
- Tight clearances; (3) T-30 bolts holding the recoil rope starter thing. Plug wire and the bits it connected to seemed ok.
- With the cover off I could see the throttle and linkage were working. Two screws visible for some kind of adjustment, but chose not to mess with them. Blast of throttle body cleaner (Because it was there)
- Spark Plug was DARK, dripping wet with fuel/oil. Couple goes with carb cleaner > rag > scuffing the electrode sand paper, then a shot of electronics cleaner
- Turned it upside down and maybe ~1/8 ounce of fuel/oil came out of the plug hole... probably flooded since I had spent a good 5 minutes trying to get it started... Blasted with the carb cleaner and dumped a few times, then canned air to dry it out.
- Put it all back together and cold start sequence again... couple pulls and a sputter! two more and Viola !!!!
Trying to be more chill these days, not sweating the uncontrollable and savor the small victories.
Stihl BG-50
Will pick up the recommended tune up kit tomorrow (FWIW I use only 100% premium gas with Stihl Moto-Mix and Stabil)
