Slow work laptop, I wonder why?

My Lenovo Thinkpad work laptop has been having sporadic performance issues lately. Had to re-so a couple of meeting because I couldn't get the thing to run even Teams.

I could not really pin it down until today.
It slowed to a crawl. The task monitor, after like 10 minutes of opening up, showed the CPU at whopping 0.23 Ghz.
Another 15 minutes or so and I loaded the hardware monitor, which showed the CPU temp at 100C! It was throttling hard.

Opened it up, because why not? And sure enough the thermal paste is crusty and barely even there.
I cleaned it up, apply the thermal paste and it's running cool now.

Employee of the month or or talk with HR for messing with corporate property?

Our work devices have so much loaded up on them. I do have local admin rights on mine which is not that common anymore. CrowdStrike is funny can't remove it without a key if you will.

A few employees complained when I took away their local admin rights...I'm like "that's literally why I'm here; to do this stuff for you. And also so you don't install friggin Star Trek Armada on your work computer."

It's Intel with Nvidia graphics

The laptop runs beautifully now. I used to get micro stutters for a while, now it's back to the original speed. It boosts to 4.7 Ghz no problem.
Still runs hot, but which laptop isn't when pushed, but at least it's not throttling. The temp app shows max of 98C. I can live with that.

I do like this Lenovo model a lot more, now that I opened it up. The back is one aluminum panel with seven screws that are captive. It popped off very easily. Same with the heatsink. The whole thing took me maybe 10-15 minutes.
I'm not a laptop person, but this would be the laptop to own if i wanted one for my personal use.
