Just heard a jingle on ESPN radio this a.m. for Slick 50 High Mileage engine treatement. Doesn't QS own them? I'm guessing they bought the name and reformulated the treatment and now the advertisment push. From the website:

Designed specifically for vehicles with 50,000 miles or more. A pour and drive engine treatment that includes a 50,000 mile engine limited warranty. Slick 50® Engine Treatment For High Mileage Vehicles works on current problems of high mileage vehicles and protects against future ones without corroding engine components. Use Slick 50® Engine Treatment For High Mileage Vehicles as part of the high mileage vehicle's maintenance to help prevent horsepower loss and protect it for years to come. Slick 50® Engine Treatment For High Mileage Vehicles helps to:

* Prevent horsepower loss
* Reduce oil consumption
* Improve compression
* Reduce exhaust smoke and hydrocarbon emissions
* Minimize blow-by
* Protect against friction and heat

There was a rumor that Slick 50 would be included in a future Quaker State High Mileage oil.

That would be a good reason to stay away from Quaker State High Mileage if this were to come to fruition.
I did use Slcik50 in a 97 Ford Escort 2L when I was younger and uninformed. Knowing what I know now, I would never have used it. I started using synthetic oils and haven't looked back.

This is just an observation, but with the new products/oils being sold under the Quaker State name which are very good, I doubt that you are getting Slick-50 as we knew it in the original form.
Whether we like the product or not, Slick-50 is one of the most recognizable names in oil additives. So I think the Company is capitalizing on this brand recognitation. I personally think that any additive used with the Slick-50 label, or added to any oil, will be a very slight, soluable or very fine use of teflon if any. Personally I would not worry about this oil, it will work as good as any other HM, if not better. Now have at it, I stated an opinion only.

Just another way of saying "reduces friction", which it may not even do...

It's a valid claim, assuming you're comparing running a car with motor oil with slick 50 in it against running a car with no motor oil at all.
And if you take them to court, I'll bet that's what they'll claim they meant.

Slick 50 is owned by Shell.

I don't know the complete pedigree. It was part of the combined Pennzoil-Quaker State Corp., then Shell bought that outfit.
