This is as far from a sleeper as you can possible get. Cool though.
Compact MPV would be more accurate.
I will agree to your terms haha...yes, but just not a station wagon....lots of folks think things are station wagons now that are not.

Ah ok. Hasn't been a Golf wagon with VR ever here in U.S. MK4 era Jetta wagons could be had with a VR 99-04.
What's the difference between a Golf wagon and a Jetta wagon other than the name? I mean I see Ventos and Boras on the roads here. People get the name badges from elsewhere. I just saw a Prius with an Alpha badge.

If you want a sleeper American Wagon - you’re going to have to build it.
Find a mid 1980s Oldsmobile wagon, make sure it has the 307 (Olds block engine, they’re all listed a 5.0 liters, but you want the Olds block) and a Q-jet. Build a good 455 Olds. Mild cam, lots of torque. Iron manifolds are fine. A good Edelbrock intake, and aluminum heads if budget allows. The 455 has a ton of torque and torque is what you’ll feel stoplight to stoplight.
Everything will bolt up. The Q-jet, ignition, accessories and belts.
A total sleeper. no one will know.
