Sleeper Japanese or American Wagon option?

Are there any reliable wagon that has some oomph? I dont remember if the Caddy is still in production but are there other sleeper option? As much as I love to own a European machine, I cannot responsibly do it. I don’t even think my handy mechanic works on them.

I see the Cadillac CTS Wagon going for $60k locally with 50k-60k miles from 2013-214 era. I recall they were only in the $60k range ($63k MSRP) new back then. The 2024 CTS has twin turbo V6 and is $65k MSRP.

How old are you willing to go. I believe some of the older BMW's with the inline 6's like N52 for example are pretty reliable. I know you didn't want euro - but there are exceptions to the euro reliability stigma. I would take one of those over a newer caddy for reliability personally.

 
Sleepers are dumb in my opinion. Are you wishing to shock and awe people gunning it from a green light?

I assume you are wanting a Japanese or Japanese station wagon that is accelerates fast. You're not going to get that from a TSX wagon or a Buick TourX in stock form and everyone here knows that. Both are nice vehicles and the TSX should have been more popular than it was.

For someone well off, a 2024 Audi RS 6 Avant does mid 11's in the 1/4 mile.

Isn't there a member here with a modified VW wagon he races at track events with a bunch of miles on it and it seems to hold up?

Yes. Me. Sleeper. [email protected] 1/4 mile. Track. Daily driver. Can be had with 6 spd or dual clutch auto. Awd. 350hp with simple bolt-on mods and beeboobops. 104k/6 years old.

I will absolutely throw Volvo as a reputable contender in this melee. They don’t scorch the earth but they can be loads of fun. A good condition P2 would be fun but getting hard to find. A V70 might suit the bill. Otherwise, that Buick looks pretty juicy.
 
Oooh. The TSX wagon is nice. I like the fact the hatch isn’t too sloppy so I can haul a lot of things like my Fit. I was going to get a Honda HRV or Toyota Corolla Cross but they both lose so much storage capacity due to the slant fifth door. I don’t understand why manufacturers ruin their vehicles that way.

The TSX would be a great sleeper and just a hint of class which adds to the allure. I am going to check it out. Reliability should be good as well.

Another option is the new Mazda 3 wagon. It has 191 hp and decent on gas with my bipolar driving habit. It has enough range and can be had with roof rack. It is compact enough to parallel park in city. This is basically my Fit with less cargo space but a lot more power. Of course, the sloping back is extremely disappointing to say the least as it remove half of potential luggage capacity.

Yes, I love to have a BMW 5 Series wagon or something from VW but I always associate European vehicles as ‘take it to a shop’ rides. I maintain my Honda’s eith a basic jack and $10 socket set the last 23 years.

Mazda 3 isn't a station wagon...it's a hatchback.

I wouldn't call the TSX wagon a sleeper...slow.

Sad thing is you can maintain my VW with the same sockets and jack....

Yell that to Doug Demuro. He owned a Ferrari 360 and EVERYONE wanted to race him or knew a guy that had a friend with a car that was faster. Plus worryingly about parking it. One of his favorite cars was his S63 AMG wagon in pewter or "old person gray" according to him. Fast, it blended in and unless you knew what it was nobody noticed.
