Sleep Preference: Dead Quiet or Background Noise (white noise)?

I need some sound. As a result of working on aircraft/jet engines, for thirty plus years I have tinnitus. A small electronic sound machine works well for me.

Hot, cold, quiet, noisy, dark, light -don't make one bit of difference. One rule though. No strong chemical smells and absolutely no smoke from tobacco or cooking.

Can't hardly sleep without it.

How about you? Like some white noise or other sound(s) going on in order to sleep or do you like it dead quiet in the room?

HVAC/ceiling fan white noise. I have a dog and chickens, and without it they wake me.
