Slate EV Pickup

I really hope this is successful. I'm not in the market but love the idea.
I think I'd really rather have the supposedly $30K midsize Ford EV, over something in the mid-20s with zero creature comforts. Maybe it's more of a discussion if the Ford actually launches at $37K.

Me too. I suspect a LOT of Americans want a basic, inexpensive option. Being built in the USA is a bonus.

I see barebones as a huge benefit. No massive, multi-function touchscreen is #1.

I'd expect that with few "doo-dads" in the cabin, there won't be any of the spying cameras and microphones that some makers are quietly installing.

It all depends on use case, though. A basic vehicle for short trips would be perfect for me. It all depends on final safety tests and quality assessments. 🤞

I *really* like a lot of the aspects about this little trucklet. For me personally with some distance and high speeds in my commute, I could work well enough with the range, but would be nervous about crashworthiness - it’s small. It’s Nissan pulsar small from the looks of it. The average size vehicle here is “F150.”

Did anyone notice that the “fastback suv” mod looks a lot like a 70’s rabbit? That look is a good look.

I wonder what crash test data looks like, and then NVH.

I’m ok with no infotainment. Could buy a small iPad if I wanted bigger nav.

If I was still living in a tight city, this would be high on my list.

This is a concern I have daily with vehicles. Heck I'm in one of the heaviest vehicles I've ever owned and it pales in comparison to the average SUV or truck these days. I don't really want to contribute to the amount of overweight battering rams on the road, but it is something to think about with a new vehicle. I tend to prefer smaller cars for many reasons.

It fills the needs of many urban and suburbanites and in reality, the actual "needs" of most Brodozer drivers. We had another thread going about bringing back the small pickups like Datsun, Chevy LUV, D50.

I agree but I also don't why most people would pick this over an Equinox EV. You get a real interior, more range, AWD capability, four proper seats, and covered interior space. Yes I know a pickup and SUV are different but the majority of tasks you can do with a small pickup like Slate you can do with an SUV. That said, I wish them the utmost success because Slate seems to be taking right to repair seriously which I appreciate. And more affordable EVs from an American company... what's not to love? It's just not for me.
