Sixt dumps Tesla

Tesla belongs in fleet however more a specialty car. The rental car companies got played by Tesla to drive their stock price up with announced sales.

The whole thing on rental car side seemed ill planned also . They should have installed superchargers at rental sites however I noticed some plugging 110V outlets at smaller airports…..

Convenient Charging & Infrastructure isn't here yet. I'll assume that these folks are traveling & not sticking around locations that have a several convenient charging stations. That's what killed it. The customers are not renting them as anticipated. If they were these companies would not bat an eye at the rest of the aspects like repairs.

That and someone renting a car doesn't want to change their habits on a whim for a car they might have not expected to get. I fully understand my use of an EV is by choice and I'm willing to make concessions to make it work. I think it's easy enough, but I was prepared to do that.

If it was a surprise and changed my plans I'd be less receptive. I grumbled a bit when I took the Toyota Camry I have right now as a rental while the GTI is getting fixed. I should have taken the Hemi Charger, but I didn't want the terrible fuel economy commuting back and forth to work. The Camry is a nice car, but they forgot to put any fun in it!

for these rental car companies, if the play was buy high sell low, congrats it worked. I assume massive writeoffs help in some unknown manner.

And then they went and purchased a fleet of stellantis, a brand know for its reliability and resale?

These headlines really write themselves.
"Write offs" are a loss and cannot help.

Uber was why Hertz was giddy about Tesla. And their “goal” to be a little cleaner, even though the typical Uber or Lyft driver can’t afford a Toyota hybrid, they still need a “reliable” car or no money to even cover their car note.

If I was the CEO or Hertz or Sixt, I’d fly to Dallas or Brussels and try to persuade Toyota Motor Sales, USA or Toyota Europe to sell me a grip of Priuses, Camry/RAV4 Hybrids and Siennas(US-only). Hybrids just make more sense for renting and gig work.
