My wife drives her '05 Corolla 4 cyl with 30k miles, to work and back each day, 45 minutes and 15 miles each way. Can I get by with a six month OCI with a good quality dino or should I go synthetic? We just bought the car, which is very clean, so I don't know it's past. My dealership does valvoline w/ filter changes for $25 and royal purple for $35 more. I'm thinking, after reading much here, that since the OCI would be 6 months I should go synthetic. TIA

I had an old girl who had a corolla 3spd with similar mileage and I don't know if it was broken in badly, but it was an oil burner. After we split, I heard her engine quit on her.

The newer 1ZZ-FE motors don't consume oil.

for my '08 corolla the maunal specifies 5k/6 month intervals. I was using the 5k interval when I was doing 362 miles/week with my daily commute with Pennzoil Conventional. Now My commute is 4 miles (i moved closer to my jobs) I have valvoline synpower in there now only because i got it buy one get one.
I will be doing 6 month intervals now regardless if I use synthetic or not. I would just use dino unless you can get good deals on synthetic, but even them sometimes it is a waste to use synthetic for such short intervals
Look up some of Bill in Utah's used oil analysis for that engine, and consult him for advice. He won't steer you wrong.

For your circumstances I think your OCI is good. You don't get the oil to temp long enough to evaporate the water and such.

I have my Mom running that on here Ford Five Hundred and seems to be great. After 45K the visible stuff in the oil cap is perfectly clean. That is the recommended OCI for here car by Ford. Seems like a perfect recommendation. Also they recommend the tires rotated each OC which also seems to work out as she has GOBS of tire left while others who did not rotate have one out their stuff.

It is never a waste to use synthetic, but I would consider something besides Royal Purple....
My situation is similar. In my Buick with the 3.8 Series II engine, I do about 4500-5000 miles in six months, 70-80% city driving. My commute is 9 miles each way, taking about a half an hour in each direction, and in The Swamp we get cheated out of any winter, so it's damp and nastily warm to hot nearly all the time. I run the 15 miles via I-10 out to the shopping suburbs, averaging about 60, at least every week, which I expect burns off the condensation.

I change my oil just a few days under 6 months to keep the vehicle in warranty. It is normally always well under 3,000 miles as I don't drive it much and normally once a week or so unless we take it on a trip.
When it is driven it is far enough that it comes up to normal temperatures.
Use well under a tank of gas a month normally but keep the tank topped off and always use Lucas Fuel Treatment every time we buy fuel.
Same went for my last vehicle.
Buy Mobil 1 5W20 at Wal-Mart. Vehicle is taken on 2 or 3 trips a year. Same as the last one.
