Simple, Free video making SW (for windows)?

My wife wants to make a simple video (Youtube type) consisting of some slides (photos) and some frames with titles and text (descriptions), etc.
What's a simple SW to use for this type of thing? She has Win XP pro.

windows movie maker should be included with XP.

Simple stuff like that could be accomplished in PowerPoint as well and saved as .pps, but I'm not sure if Youtube accepts this format for upload.
