I'm currently going through the almost 500 pages of this section gathering information to get me a decent filter. So far I'm liking the AAP. It is liked by BITOG, good price, grip surface and the most important of MY criteria.. is not a Fram. I dislike them since a gasket was leftover and caused me some problems and then I see here that 'Fram sucks' is more common than I thought.

As for my needs, got a 87 RX7 and it came factory with an oil cooler. I'll do 2 changes a year which will be well under 5k so longevity isn't so neccessary. I'd lean towards better flow than filtration since I won't be doing extended drains.

So, the Total Grip is doing good and while I have no problem staying with it I'd just like to try some other filters out there and just "SEE" if I can tell a difference in how my engine spins.

And while I've learned alot here I'm still below the curve and will probably go to the grave that way since ya'll are engineers and meticulous mechanics. Well, I've gone on long enough, but my thoughts are that a silicone ADBV is better (obviously) but is only better and more durable during extended drains.

Does it seal better, last longer or what?

Thanks for any help!

Oh yeah, here is something I found while reading here if ya'll haven't seen it yet. Trying to learn, ya know!

Purolator Pure One, a filter with much love from this board, is very cheap on Amazon.com. Something like 2 for 9.88 there.

As far as the sure grip feature, yeah its nice, but I grab a little strip of 90 grit from my garage and whammo, instant ghetto sure grip. It works!

Silicone ABDV? Why not is what I think about the issue. Why take a chance when it comes to oil filters when the price b/w one with silicon and without is so minimal.

Just my .02

Supposedly those were discontinued.

I'd be more concerned with who made the filter over what type of rubber seal or anti-drain back valve material. For a 5k, 6 month OCI, both should work fine. Both are very good seal materials - it's much more about how the seal and ADBV is implemented than the actual material used.

Like others have said above - Purolator PureOne is highly respected, as are NAPA Gold, as are the basic Purolators. SuperTech filters are well liked too. You can order NAPA Gold from site sponsor FleetFilter (who are really nice to deal with) for low prices - I buy a year supply at a time from them and they are good, cheap, PLUS I don't have to hunt all over town. Seems like all the auto parts places are always OUT of the filter I want / need.

Lots of people like the AMSOIL Ea, but I've never used them.

I wish FF could get me the Napa Nascar filter even though I think they still have the nitrile.

Have you e-mailed them? I e-mailed them looking for items not on the webpage and they were able to order what I needed...

thanks,
