Shower drain options.

I replaced a leaking shower drain with one of the wing tite shower drains. followed the instructions all went smoothly. Then I turned the water on and there o ring design leaks like crazy. I questioned this design and I guess for good reason. What options do I have with out removing the entire shower from the bathroom? There is a basement for access which is nice but what would be the best route to fix this and keep it fixed.

Is the oring actually making it inside the drain pipe. It should not take much of a seal for a pan drain since gravity wants the water to go down. If the oring is sitting on the edge of the drain pipe water hitting the edge of the pipe will probably drip out. They make adapters for different pipe sizes.

I looks like the Wing Tite drain is for situations where you cannot access the drain from below. In your case with basement access a standard drain assembly should work fine. Drain- tailpipe-sealant -attach to sanitary drain in the basement.

The oring just rides in the outside of the pipe and yes it’s making contact. It is sitting within the areas of the drain the instructions recommend. I lubed the seal as recommended as well
