I know there are worse places than KS, but this is the driest year I can remember here, or anywhere else I've lived (ND/WI) in my 40+ years). Attached below are some pics. The first shows our old shed + backyard in April. 2-4" rains are common during the Spring in KS. The grass gets nice and thick. I had to mow every 5-7 days, and then it was too thick to mulch.

Fast-foward to now. Typically, the rain shuts off towards the end of June, and comes back in October. This year, it shut off earlier, and also has been the hottest temps on record. I have not mowed since the middle of June. These pics show my backyard now, my sinking driveway, and the "kkreit Fault" beside my house. You can see the paint lines on my foundation near the garage -- where the driveway should be if level.

I would but it's the same as yours. Brand new driveway put in earlier this year already has a crack it in! I don't mind the non-mowing part.

^ Bummer about your new driveway. I don't plan to do anything about our driveway. Mudjacking costs a fortune. I'm sure I'll need replacement sometime, but I'm not going to worry about it now. Until then, I have 4x4 to get over expansion joints

Not only dry, but smokey from all the fires in areas.
Had a news (radio) broadcast on one over 12,000 acres this morning.

We need some real decent amounts of snow this year to replenish our reservoirs from the very mild winter & hot summer. Thank goodness we have been gettin showers the last couple weeks or it would be brown & dry in my location also. Hope everyone can rebound for your losses & Mother Nature makes things positive very very soon!

I thought for sure my grass was toast (no way to water until the plumbing in the house was replaced), but after a few weeks of actual rain, nearly 70% came back!

Never been so happy to see green grass!

I could ask my insurance. That's a good question. However, with a $1K deductible, it wouldn't help much for mud jacking. For replacement it would.

motor_oil_madman,

I've seen "TX dry". We're about that bad this year. My wife and I drove to Dallas in Aug of '99. That was the driest I had ever seen. Everywhere you looked, it was brown.

I guess I could plant a cactus in my backyard, and pretend we're in AZ? Lay down astroturf?

LOL. Yeah -- I better not bother them. They've replaced 2 roofs in the past 5 yrs for me.
