My brother has a 1995 Ford Escort LX with the 1.9l and the F-4EAT trans. I'll be helping him do some repairs in the next couple weeks. I live in a different state, so I'm lining up parts and projects in advance, so we can do them all (hopefully) over a couple days.
He had the car inspected by a mechanic, who recommended a few different repairs. One was a transmission fluid change. I'm planning on a pan drop, since I'm assuming this trans doesn't have a drain plug, but that's just a guess.
The filter for this car has a fine screen, not a real filtering element. I purchased kits from both NAPA and Carquest to compare, and they're both the same way. BTW - I was disappointed to see the Carquest kit was made in China and the NAPA kit made in Vietnam.
So, should I replace the filter?
I'm on the fence as to whether I should replace it while I'm in there. If it had a true filtering element, I'd replace it no questions asked. Part of me thinks I should skip it because it's just a screen. But part of me also thinks I should just replace it while I have it apart.
