Should I Do Some Mixin'?

Well I've got some 10w40 in my stash, and don't really have a use for it. I've been giving it to my brother for his oil burning Lexus though.

These are the vehicles that I maintain that I'll consider mixing this oil in with:
2003 Buick Rendezvous 139k
2002 Chevy Trailblazer 102k
1996 Jeep Cherokee 136k

Should I use 1 quart of the 10w40 in them per oil change to try to get rid of the 10w40? Or just run the 30 weights?

Here's my current stash (in quarts):
Castrol GTX SynBlend 5w30 - 35
Valvoline 5w30 conventional - 1
Valvoline NextGen 10w40 - 4
Valvoline NextGen MaxLife 10w40 - 8
Chevron Supreme HM 5w30 - 4
Chevron Supreme HM 10w30 - 2
Chevron Supreme HM 10w40 - 5
Pennzoil Ultra (the good stuff) 5w30 - 8
Pennzoil Ultra (the good stuff) 10w30 - 4

With those older vehicles, it really doesn't matter. One idea is to run the 30-weight in the cooler winter months and the 40-weight in summer.

Since you're in Arizona, I doubt these engines would care either way.. especially in the summer months. The Cherokee would especially love the 40 weight oil. You could use it up in 3 OCIs.

In your climate, I wouldn't hesitate to run a 10W-40 in any of the engines on your list.
It'll just make them seem smoother and quieter.
FWIW, I used 10W-40 in everything up until 1997, when we bought our first new vehicle for which that water-thin devil 5w30 was recommended. That was also our first FI engine that wasn't a diesel.
We saw, and see, below zero temperatures (in real degrees, not Celsius) every winter. No problems with 10W-40 in the cold.

The Jeep will run well, even thrive on the 10w40 in your climate, run it straight.

Bingo. 10w40 for the Cherokee.

The Cherokee has run the MaxLife 10w40 for a couple oil changes already, but switched to Pennzoil Platinum 5w30 in November since we fixed the oil leak. My grandfather gets in, puts his seatbelt on and then starts the engine and drives away, sometimes in the morning when it gets a little cold at night, so I figured since he isn't going to take it easy on it at first I'll try a 5w30. I might throw in 2 quarts of the 10w40 with 4 - 5w30. The Trailblazer takes 7 quarts of oil, probably won't mind 2 quarts either of the 10w40. Hmmm.

I would keep the 4.0 on the HM diet since it used to be a leaker.. the seals might go back to their original state if they aren't continuously conditioned.

Well last year I did the rear main seal and oil pan gaske and it still had a drip. I found out it was the drain plug, it was actually basically just a regular bolt. I proper drain plug installed has sealed it right up. And I know the jeep will run on basically anything. I don't know if the Buick or Chevy are picky or not.

Ah. My apologies. I thought you meant "we fixed the leak" as in the Maxlife fixed it.. Lol.
