Hello fellow Bitog'ers =)
Wondering if I should change my oil now, or wait....
Here is the situation.. This is my '95 Dodge Ram 5.9L. Engine has 111k on it, and I changed the oil last at 7-10-10, and I have aprox 2800 miles on it since that change. I used Rotella T5 10w30 along with a can of 8cyl Restore, and a PureOne filter. My old Dodge pretty much gets used as a summertime hauler. I pull my 5,000lb boat and trailer with it during the summer, and also drive it from time to time as my DD. As you can see, 2800 miles in over a year is not a lot of driving. 90% of the miles are to and from the lakes with the good old Four Winns following behind. This bad boy is a reg cab, short bed 5.9l with an 46RH 4speed hydraulic trans, 4x2 drivetrain. This truck is a little power house. Original owner was from Canada, and ordered this old little truck with the Laramie SLT Pacakge, Infinity sound,Power everything, with the largest motor and the slightly tougher transmission. I know that people will knock the the Torqueflite transmissions, but I've never had a problem with mine, and would much rather have the 46RH than a 42RE or 46RE transmissions. Anyway, back to the original topic...
being that it is 2wd, and the fact that this thing drinks more than my entire family including the dog and two cats, it pretty much stays parked for our beautiful Detroit winters.
Being that it has been over a year, and even though it has low mileage on the oil, it has seen severe duty for most of the mileage, and the fact that it sat all winter long with that oil in the truck, should I change it? or wait until winter when I stop driving it again? Also, the oil is perfect on the stick. The 17 year old 360 does not seem to consume or leak any oil.
Thoughts? Opinions??
