Short in Wiring harness

I have a 2013 Toyota Corolla. The fuse for the interior lights and key fob was bad. replaced fuse and it blew again. Found an article that said to disconnect the plug in the driver side interior junction box for the dome wiring harness. I unplugged it, put a new fuse in and the key fob worked. So it sounds like a short in the wiring harness going from that junction box to I think the inside dome light.

How difficult is that to replace, does it get fished through or does the overhead lining have to come off? If I took it to get it done any idea on what I would be charged?

You may try removing the dome light assembly first and unplug it, then re-connect the plug you disconnected in the junction box, then see if the key fob still works. Anything is possible but I would suspect a bad/shorted dome light assembly or maybe the connectors for the dome light bulbs touching the metal surface of the roof or possibly a metal mounting brace between the roof and headliner before tracing the dome light wires for shorts. You should be able to remove the lens for the dome light and see if it either unsnaps out of the headliner or maybe it has a screw or two holding it in place.

Thank you. In your opinion, based on my test with the plug is the problem most likely between the junction box plug and dome light? Either the wiring or in the light itself?

The problem is somewhere between the junction connector and the dome light. The easiest thing to check is the light itself, and I always like to start with the simplest solutions first. If you unplug the dome light and plug the junction box connector back in and the key works after that, then you will know either the dome light assembly is bad or there is a direct short to metal (ground) some where around where the light is mounted. It does sound to me like a bad dome light but there is always the possibility of a chafed or shorted wire going from the junction box to the dome light.
