I have this pair of leather work shoes that have the round rope style laces. I can’t fit the life of me keep these things tied tight. Is there another type of lace that works better? These laces that you’d see on pretty much most boots, I’m wearing low cut comp toe shoes.

Use a better knot. You tie your laces like most folks do - a square knot - but it’s not the actual knot that sailors used to tie a sail to the yard-arm. They needed to have a knot that was secure, but could be untied with one hand, quickly.

Add one more wrap in your square knot - and they’ll hold much better. I don’t double-knot my shoes, no need with the proper, and effective, knot. Look closely at the right side of the knot - it’s wrapped twice, not once.

They still untie with a single tug, not cumbersome like all of the double knots out there.

I bought a pair of boots from Altai and they came with those "stepwave" round laces. I've been wearing work boots for 70 years and these are by far the best wearing laces I've ever had, AND they stay tied too!

if you want laces that won't loosen buy yourself some waxed skate laces. I hated them when I was coaching hockey. It was difficult to loosen them. Regular skate laces stay pretty good as well.

I found a pair of Keens at an industrial boot store near me. They're great...but then an old pal told me about the Keens he just got!
Amazing.
I never thought about the laces as I've had no trouble with them.

The 'extra' base knot for the common bow is an old trick.
However, I've found that the excess length of lace flops around and contributes to untying so I just take the two loops and throw my extra square know into them
It doesn't have to be tight. Just take up the "swinging slack".

Also: The "length stitched" laces found on many running shoes are really good for lifespan and staying tied.

On a serious note- is there a name for that knot for better demonstrations?

My work boots are all Redwing. They had BOA system as option, I thought gimmick until my shoes don't untie everyday. Coated steel cables and a ratchet mechanism. I don't know if it can be adapted or a universal version out there. My multiple work boots all have this now. Wide feet limits comfortable boot choices anyway. I'll pay the extra for daily comfort. Coating has worn a couple times. I went to Redwing store, they put new cable in no cost.

I saw a video quite a while ago. It showed the proper way to tie shoelaces so they stay put. I like everyone else was taught to tie a granny knot. The video shows how to tie a square knot. I do right lace over left lace. Then after making a loop in my right hand the left lace GOES UNDER the right lace and then through. That makes a square knot. Ever since doing this my work boot laces have never come loose. Give it a try. It is difficult to get used to as you have to fight muscle memory. But laces stay tied and tight all day long

I switched to this last year when hiking had knots coming loose all the time...it's wonderful.

Berluti, thats what I use and never had an issue. Grand son(8 yrs old) plays basketball and baseball and always coming loose==taught him berluti knot now no issues. Double knot that he and my daughter used on his game shoes/sneakers was always a pain for him to untie.

No, that’s a different knot - a square knot with loops - though it does look secure.

I can’t find a video or demo for what I’m talking about - but my knot stays secure all day - then comes undone with a tug on the end.

I realize I’m not being much help, here, if I can’t show you guys how to tie it.
