I have a 4x2 Mazda B3000 pickup with orginal rear shocks. What rear shocks would be ideal in order to increase load capacity and limit sway?

Thanks.

Improve sway control--need better swaybar bushings

Improve overall road control -- need new shocks/struts

Improve load capacity --- need new leaf springs (or "helper" springs).

Firestone air springs.do a nice job with tired or overloaded springs.Sway is also somewhat controlled by using 2 separate air lines instead of a T.

Forget AIR! Use Monroe (forget the name) with variable rate springs built around shock, Make very little difference in empty ride height, but add additional 1,200lb load capacity. These don't do much for handling, but air shocks actually degrade ride as when cornering air is pushed out of leaning side into rising side actually causing it to rise higher!

Check out www.kyb.com for a shock application. Call them directly under their contact information and tell them exactly what you want to do to get the best application and technical specs. Then check ouy www.sparkplugs.com to price the application. Very good shocks and site to buy them. I just suggest calling KYB directly to make sure the have exactly what you need. Lifetime warranty also.

I have Monroe "Max-Air" in the rear of my Cherokee with the Air-Lift ride adjustment compressor and am very happy with this set-up.Mild load leveling with air shocks are what they are used for.If you try and make them compensate for bad springs then you run the risk of ripping shock mounts or worse. My springs were at the proper ride height and I use the air shocks just to keep my headlights level...up front I installed brand new KYB Mono-Max shocks and this set-up is great on my 99 XJ.

I would look a the Monroe Gas Magnum shocks with coil overs. These are HD shocks with the coil springs sround the shocks. Easy to install and very reasonable. Just adding new shocks won't increase load capacity.

I also have monroe air shocks on the back of my Cherokee and they are great. I adjust them manually though. Highly recommended.

I'd go with Bilstein shocks. I'm SO glad I paid a bit more per shock as the ride is great! It is firmer than stock and I feel more bumps (nothing annoying) but the ride quality and superior handling makes up for it. I switched them out 2 years ago and I still have the thought "Man, these Bilsteins were a good buy!" go through my head as I'm driving down the road.
Here's a good price on them: eshocks.com

For Mazda check out the adjustable Tokico which are perfect fit for Japanese cars in general, slightly on the expensive side but well worth it in long run.

Here's a site that carries top line shocks by Bilstein, Koni, and Tokico. No Monroe Gas Magnum which is what I still recommend. Price out the top line shocks then price out the Monroe coil overs. I'll bet you can get the HD Gas Magnums WITH coil over overload springs for less than you'll pay for the Koni's or Tokico's without coil overs.

Thanks alot for all the info! Now I need to do some researching since I have websites. Again thank you all.

Bilsteins are my choice for almost any application. They're hands down awesome shocks.

I'll add my vote for Bilsteins as well. I love them on my vehicle. If you use air shocks or air bags be sure and keep the left and right sides separate. Don't have the lines connected together at all. Like others have said the air can move from one side to the other which does not help sway at all. If they are separate and each has their own fill line then it can help and easily increase your ability to keep your vehicle sitting level. Just don't go over the capacity of your axle and tires. They don't really increasy your load capacity, they just keep the vehicle level when loaded. The nice thing about air bags is when you are driving unloaded you can remove the air and your ride is unaffected yet can be pumped up enough to keep your vehicle level. I'm not really a fan of air shocks. It justs limits your choices of good shocks.
