Whenever I take the car in for an oil change to the dealer(Honda/Acura) I notice that the shifter (auto) moves a little smoother and feels as if it has less play and was tightened up or adjusted. Is there something they do as part of their "lube check inspection and top off" service ? If so then I am curious what it is exactly that they do to the shift column ?

Are you leaking any oil?? It could just be top up oil OR they are draining it, cleaning the filter screen and filling with nice new oil. That can be noticed, although they should give you more info and not just rubber stamp the book.

Maybe when it is in the air for the oil change parts get shifted a bit?

Or, it could be the famous Italian Tenor, Placebo.

The Dealer?

If you didn't pay for it, they didn't do it. The only thing I ever got for free at the mechanic was greasy hand prints on my interior.
