just picked up a 96 cutlass ciera wagon off craigslist for $300.

People are really eager to bargain when a rear power window is stuck down, and they've fixed it with plastic bags and duct tape! The wind noise/flapping was as loud as you'd imagine at 55 mph.

Has the 3100, intake manifold gaskets done already, and 146k on the clock. Had to do a brake line and a tiny amount of metal patchwork to pass inspection. Oh, and two tires which I picked up at the junkyard and mounted myself. The 14 inch plastic aftermarket hubcaps only have 4 lugnuts; they couldn't imagine a 5-lugger being that small, LOL.

With a 4 speed automatic I expect >30 MPG driven lightly. Oh, and it seats eight! Name any other vehicle that does this!

These things only weigh 2700-2800 lbs so they scoot along. Body rigiditiy is circa 1982; can hear the doors creak in their frames when it flexes.

Headliner is coming down; wife will dig through her fabric stash for something groovy and we'll reglue with something other than "mouse fur".

Oil is 2000 miles old so will leave it in for now. Has a touch of the piston slap starting up which clears up quickly enough.

When the title comes will probably sell this heap to a rural delivery mailman; they seem to love these things up here.

I blacked out the chrome grill with spraypaint; think it looks way more sporty that way.

Great find! Looks good in the pictures.

Not bad! You got a steal at 300 bucks IMHO. I can often find a bunch of the 3.1/3.4/3.8 in good running condition for 1200+.

Nice find! Any luck lately on coming across any vintage S-series Sattys?

S-series are dried up around here for now.

Still have an engine cradle and transmission sitting in storage. Cradles rust and trannies throw differential pins, so my luck will come around...

Encourage those with S-series to make sure they spin out on ice and contact dry pavement. Nice way to throw a diff pin!

The S series are here still here in good quantities. Craiglist in Minneapolis shows me about 13 or so S series for 1K and under so far this month. They must have been really popular in MN/WI back in the day. From 1001 bucks to 2000 there are already 25 of them for sale in April alone on C-list.

My next door neighbor is a rural mail carrier. He's a Subaru wagon man. It has the steering wheel on the right side of the car. He says it came from Australia. It has maybe 300,000 miles on it. Second automatic transmission.

I don't think I've seen a rural mail carrier in an Oldsmobile. It's always an Subaru or Jeep around here--practically part of the uniform.

It looks a little rough. I don't know what he drives through, but my pet greyhounds always make a point of sniffing his right front wheel (although they ignore every other car they see).

Rural mailmen here are not afraid of operating a LHD car from the passenger side, if they have a bench seat and can reach the pedals.

My guy used to have a celebrity wagon, but has since started using dodge caravans. The celebrity was incredibly scraped up on the passenger rocker panel from all the snow bank ramming.

Have noticed the following cars sold here for mailmen in RHD config:

-- Jeep cherokee
-- Subaru legacy
-- Saturn wagon (rare-- SWP!)

That's a nice find ... I always conclude that as long as a car will drive down the road and not catch on fire, it's worth at least $200.

I'll call you when I'm done with a vehicle.
