I'm curious how well T5 sells when it seems like T4 is just as stout in the additives pack.

Thanks for posting the numbers.

Thanks for this VOA, GemStater. I appreciate your inclusion of the bottling date, too. Good job!

I hope to someday get a VOA of the CK-4 version of Delo XLE, I just need to remember to grab some at the shop that I get my services done at. I'm guessing that there is more interest in this Rotella T5 oil since Shell has maintained the higher phosphorus content, and XLE has gone the way of dual rated (lower phos) CK-4/SN.

Thanks for the VOA of the new CK-4 Rotella 10W30 synblend.
Zinc = 1167 ppm
Boron = 204 ppm
Ca = 2237 ppm
TBN = 8.09
KV 100 = 12.2 cSt

Here is a link to the old Rotella 10W30 synblend that is API CJ-4 and SM
(Rotella 10W30 CJ-4 VOA)
Zinc = 1197 ppm
Boron = 23 ppm
Ca = 2234 ppm
TBN = 9.6
KV 100 = 11.55 cSt

The new API CK-4 oil has about the same zinc and calcium, with more Boron and it's a bit thicker, but with slightly lower TBN (this may be due to how the TBN is measured).

The new stuff looks good, but it doesn't appear to be dual rated (no API SN or SM or SL), probably because the zinc levels are too high to be SN (~ 850 ppm Zn). I suspect it would still be suitable to claim SL and be used in older cars that like high zinc oil, it's just a shame they don't claim this to make it obvious. I suspect it's a case of claim SN or claim nothing marketing.

I'd really like to see PQIA test this latest CK-4 T5. First to reconfirm ZDDP, but more specifically, I'd like to see the NOACK and CCS numbers now that Shell is utilizing a certain level of GTL base oils in is formulation.

Could we be seeing a HDEO equivalent Pennzoil Platinum in this oil? For the price, and with potential rebates, that would be hard to beat IMO.

Looking at the images of the container above, this oil is rated ACEA E9 which is a high quality European oil spec for heavy duty diesel engines. But if you read the detail of the ACEA sequences, the laboratory tests for the dual rated (petrol/gas and light duty diesel) A3/B3/B4 oils look very similar to the laboratory tests for the ACEA E6/E7/E9 oils. The biggest difference is in the engine tests where the E series of oils has a focus on achieving soot and wear tests for OEMs like Cummins and Mack.

Anyway I personally would have no problems using a E9 oil in an average petrol/gas engine. The E6 and E9 oils both require a Sulphated Ash level of 1.0 % or less, which places it squarely in PCMO territory.

Yes that is correct, it's ACEA E9 rated so the HTHS is 3.5cP or more, while the Noack is 13% or less.
