Shell or BP using 93 octane?

If they were the same price, I would go with Shell simply because they are less run down around here than the BP stations. And most don't have a surcharge for using credit (yet).

Minimum requirements, yes. The significant difference is with top tier gas stations which offer MORE fuel additives vs station B and your engine is cleaner inside as a result.

BP feels their Invigorate is as good as Top Tier. Ford recommends BP.

Amoco Ultimate (BP) is awesome stuff! I try to find no-ethanol gasoline when I can,but I would always run Ultimate if I could get it! Everything I've used Ulimate in has always run great, and got good mileage as well.

Is there any evidence, that is not provided by the fuel companies themselves, that this makes a significant difference in the lifetime of a vehicle? Because there's probably a point where it becomes diminishing returns. Bad analogy, but if you wash your hands with a squirt of soap and it gets clean, does it mean it will be twice as clean if you use two squirts?

Or if dumping a bottle of quality fuel system cleaner would do as well?

And exactly how much more is it beyond the minimum that is added that the fuel company won't say?

It should be noted that on the dyno BP was the best fuel in my car for eliminating excessive knock retard.

But that is VERY platform specific. What makes one car sing can easily make another one cry.

Well, Since they are both right by each other, I might as well switch off between the two. Can't hurt to put in different add packs every now and then.

BP's bullcrap excuse was that "We don't want to add ethanol to our gas to cheapen it" for not going top tier(read: BP only sells E10 gas as far as the eye can see). Holiday is TT and they have a few stations around me with 0 ethanol. "unoxygenated". So I guess they're not actually top tier.

That said, with BP gas I only get a low 26mpg on a 2.0L, 2700 pound, CVT car. With all other stations I've gone to I can get between 28 and 31. Refuse to touch BP ever again on my watch.

I don't know any tuner around my area that won't tell you to make sure you use Shell or Sunoco for 93 octane. I do my best to not support BP.

Sadly, the Sunocos are getting real scarce around here.

Luckily for you, they are still plentiful in their home base (and your) state.
