Shell or BP using 93 octane?

Which is better to use? My 06 Mercury has a 93 octane tune on it. These gas stations are about a block apart from eachother and are usually the same price. Which will keep my engine cleaner over the years that I will own it. I also use a fuel system cleaner once every 15k.

I like Shell better.I use Amoco because it's on the way, but I'd drive a bit past a bp to get shell. And I use 93.

I've got no clue as to who has the better additive pack, but I've always been a faithful Shell and Amoco\BP with absolutely no fuel related issues in any of my cars.

Neither one has 93 around me. You have to get Phillips or Marathon for that. Shell and BP have 92 here.

Why is Exxon top tier gas and BP isn't I don't know. But Shell is. Top Tier cert doesn't guarantee they are better than BP, but if BP were meeting that standard why wouldn't they be on the list since Exxon is?

Top tier is a scam. Around me all the gas is the same. Just different trucks.

Two major pipeline terminals and all the brands pull from the two.

If that's the case, and it certainly may be, then I'd assume that all the gas has to meet the top tier designation (which is above the EPA requirement) and you're benefiting for free.

But the additive can be added on a truck by truck basis so there's no reason to think just because it's the same truck the quality of gas is the same. They don't have regular and premium trucks either.

Like using different shampoos, I think switching them every other tank or so is a good idea.
They are both fine fuels, with great additives.
Unless you see a power or gas mileage drop, I'd switch around for best cleaning from all angles.

I would suggest you speak with creator of the tune you are running. Some recommend against using certain brands of gas like Shell because it appears to be more prone to ping.

Top Tier requires a min % of ethanol if I remember right. Some comanies don't agree with the top tier standards and prefer alternate methods of creating clean burning fuel.

Buy the cheaper of the two. If they are the same price, go to the one that is the most convenient. Both have good quality fuel.

Jealousy reigns. Anything above 91 is unobtanium out here unless I suck it up and buy race fuel.

Well I guess it will depend on which I feel like stopping at when I need a fill up since they are right by each other and are usually the same price.

No way !
I switch once long time ago, after 2-3 showers I switch back to Dove and never tried any other brand.

I tried many different brands of gasoline and oil and many other things, but shampoo, soap and toothpaste are not the one I like to change brand.

Fuel trucks have multiple compartments. The fuel a truck takes to Shell will not be the same as said truck takes to your local Gas and Puke.

Every gas company adds it's own gas additives. Some add more, some add just the bare minimum required by law. I choose to believe that Shell (my favorite gas station) does indeed add more additives then the "el cheapo" brand gas station down the street. I pay a few pennies more per gallon for that peace of mind.

That said, i still add small maintenance doses of Redline or Amsoil fuel system cleaners every few thousand miles, just to further aid in any cleanup that the engine might need. I've noticed for years that the engine runs better after a tank that had some extra cleaning additives in it.

Whichever is cheaper and has the highest turnover. They both have the same octane and have to meet the minimum detergency levels so it should not make a significant difference.

If they were the same price, I would go with Shell simply because they are less run down around here than the BP stations. And most don't have a surcharge for using credit (yet).
