Shell email response regarding fuels and ethanol

Hey guys,

I had emailed Shell with some questions regarding the ethanol content throughout the grades, along with labeling the use of ethanol if required through them (versus the state).

Here is the response I had received:


Thank you for bringing your concerns to our attention. We forwarded your inquiry to our fuel specialist and here are the answers to your questions.

1) All Shell gasoline is Top Tier certified, whether it is gasoline with no ethanol or gasoline with up to 10% ethanol.

2) Yes, all Shell stations are required to have a label on the pumps if the gasoline contains ethanol.

3) Not usually, it is normally 10% in all grades. However, in some markets that have a higher demand for gasoline for marine applications, a station might offer a premium without ethanol. This is generally hard to do from a terminal blending and supply perspective.

So just in case you were wondering some of the same questions... Appreciate the customer service from Shell!

I started running the Stabil marine for ethanol in my boat this year. I drained my take in the beginning of the season and saw a lot of water in it. Plus in all my magazine's I've been reading about people having all sorts of problems because of the ethanol, plus corn lobbyists are pushing to increase it to like 15% or something, which is no good because there are no marine engines which are rated for over 10%

The government should just pay the cornholers to keep their mouth shut. the only reason why they want to increase it to 15% is so they will sell more corn to the alcohol producers.

I say let them product consumer grade consumption alcohol and let them get drunk off it, this will keep them busy and quiet!

To the OP, thanks for posting the answers to those questions... Good to know they have good customer service. I use only Shell in my vehicle.

Ah yes the SWELL oil Co.I use it in my vehicles too.It runs the best,and gives the best mpg.I would really like to try BP but we dont have any in my area.(their all in Philly

When I'm in Kentucky visiting my friends I fill up at only BP stations as they have a ton of them and it's a good fuel. I always notice that I get really good fuel economy which is slightly better than Shell. It's good stuff!

Too bad we don't have BP Stations up here anymore...

BP in Lexington, KY, sells gasolines that yield the worst fuel economy.

There are a few in my area. (Don't live in Philly.) I haven't been impressed with BP, as my mpg is lower, and it cost as much as Shell.

Just outside of Florence.

I always get the best mileage out of BP gas while there...
