Shelf Life of 3M Silicone Paste 08946

I am considering a can of 3M silicone paste, but am concerned about the shelf life. 8 oz will take me many years to use up. What is the shelf life for something like this?

Actually, just found my answer on 3M's site: 48 months.

Silicone is highly stable. They make 50 year silicone sealant.

I would think this stuff would last basically forever.

Yet it says 48 months. Guess that is just the market setting up "efficiencies" for the consumer!

We have a small tub of silicone grease like that at work that is 26 years old. I still use it to seal ground glass joints and help seal rubber tubing to barbed connectors. It'll last way, way longer than 4 years.
