Anyone ever use the Shave Secret oil? Someone recommended it to me last year as a pre-shave oil so I picked some up at Wal-Mart. I tried it once (as a pre-shave oil) and didn't like the results. I got a better shave with the cream I use without the Shave Secret.

Anyway, this morning I was looking for something in the medicine cabinet and saw the little bottle of Shave Secret and decided to try it again, but this time following the directions on the bottle and only shaving with the oil and nothing else. Holy cow! This stuff is fantastic. I hadn't shaved all weekend so my beard was pretty heavy this morning, but I got the most comfortable shave I've ever had.

You use it with a regular (not electric) razor and just use 3 drops on your whole beard? I'm interested in this; I seem to never get a comfortable or close shave with the many creams I've tried.
 
I get a great shave using a disposable 5 bladed razor and lathering my face with Ivory soap. I shave in the shower at the end of the shower, so the stubble has had a chance to soften with the humidity and heat.
 
Thanks, G-MAN. Will have to give it a try, but only after I go through the two jars of Art of Shaving cream that the wife just bought me. That stuff smells so good (sandalwood), I have to refrain myself from tying to lick it.

^^Right on! That`s the exact same way I shave too :^) I shave at the very end while I have conditioner in my hair,letting it stay in for the 3 or so minutes they always say to do.
 
Lately I've been ditching the foam in a can and using anything "slick" on hand, namely, hair conditioner. My beard is thick and tough (if I so say so myself) and I've found that these cans of shaving cream are not needed. Particularly, when traveling to a place where I'll be in a hotel, I just use the hair conditioner that they supply. If I'll be somewhere else, I'll just take a tiny bottle of conditioner (same bottles you get at hotels). It saves me the trouble of carrying anything else with me.

Now, I'm wondering if MMO would give a nice shave... hmmm.... ;-)
 
The best shave I have ever gotten repeatedly was using Tom's of Maine Shaving Cream (came in a tube similar to toothpaste) with a shaving brush/bowl. I think Tom's discontinued it and right now I'm searching through different brands, but haven't found anything nearly as good yet.

Breakfree CLP smells better...smells like...victory...
 
No matter what cream or gel I have tried, all have been terrible unless I first either shower or wash my face with warm water to soften up the hairs. After that, the razor will just gliiiidddddeeee with any ol cream.

An occasional and unfortunate side effect. But luckily, you're in a shower!

Have you tried Proraso/CO Bigelow? Also comes in a tube and is very good, IMO.
 
I like Aveda shaving cream. It is more of a lotion, doesn't foam or anything. Pricey, but I only shave once or twice per week.
 
For me, the key is the 5 bladed razor. I have never been cut with one yet. I got a 3 blade version and got cut about the first time I tried it. As for stubble in the shower, no problem, washes down the drain. My shower is in the basement and has the full sized floor drain. It's great, it NEVER clogs with women's hair. Unlike the tiny bathtub drain upstairs.

But where are the real men: Who here uses a straight razor?
 
I slather on my face etc et al the finest melted butter, hand-churned from the cream of organic free-range bovines by busty and very sparely clad Danish maidens.

I use a bar of Dove my wife likes to buy. And yes, shaving in the shower with warm water does make the hair easier to cut. I use any cheap twin blade disposable razor (Bic) and after I shave then put some Aveeno cream on my face and that greatly reduces ingrown hairs plus it makes my skin baby soft.
