Hello,

I have a mac mini which we use as our main computer. We recently moved the computer desk, and so now our computer is not in the room with our stereo, etc.

I have a number of windows desktops and laptops, and for now my vista desktop connects and shares fine with my mac. Good enough, right?

Well, the problem is that I keep all of my music on the mac mini's USB hard disk. Not that I couldnt move the disk when I wanted to, but I was hoping that someone could point me in the right direction of how I could get the USB hard drive to show up when accessing my mac from my windows vista computer.

Right now my mac shares fairly openly - desktop, documents, etc., but applications and other disks are not available. I don't see an option to share an external HD on the mac, which is what Id really love to see...

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

JMH

Not a mac user, but Apple has Samba built in (makes an apple look like a Windows server) However, I like the suggestion made further down in the article. You could simply serve out the music directory tree via a webserver (read only of course) Users could access the tree without authentication and it would be available to any machine on your home network without having to muck with the client machines..
